Having declared the National Guard would be present Thurs May 28 and “no more buildings would burn”,

when asked to explain ‘the complete lack of visible response or any mission 24-year National Guardsman and Command Sergeant Major,  Governor and Commander-in-Chief of 13,000 National Guard troops, Tim Walz said

“I will let my leadership come back up there, you’re absolutely right and I think that speaks to itself. The way this works is, the mayors ask and they take charge and lead on the missions”.

• Mayor Frey did ask the Governor to activate the Guard:
  Wed May 27 6:29p, Thurs May 28 10:55a, Fri May 29 midnight
• What Governor Walz meant by saying Mayor Frey was supposed to “lead on the missions” was not  explained.
